Verification of Competency (VOC)
Brisbane Truck School can provide Verification of Competency to organisations and employers who require it.
What is a Verification of Competency or VOC?
A VOC is a method of determining the skill level of a person against a defined competency standard in order to evaluate the person’s ability to carry out the activity or works their employer requires them to do.
A VOC helps ensure that employers and organisations in a variety of industries are meeting Work Health and Safety requirements (WHS) and have competent skilled staff working with and for them.
Why do we need a VOC?
- To assist in the maintenance of work health and safety requirements
- To manage the currency of your employees
- Can be utilised as part of pre-employment checks
- As part of ongoing site requirements to maintain competency and safety standards.
How does it work?
- Your staff come to our training centres, our trainers come to your business location or you bring your equipment and staff to us
- We confirm if a nationally recognised competency (unit of competency) exists to be positioned as an industry benchmark
- We consider the organisation policy, procedures and documents to establish the workplace competency benchmark
- We perform on the job observation, knowledge and skill checks for each staff member who requires verification
- We prepare an assessment report for each staff member for your records (via email)
- We supply a VOC document (via email)
Before you engage a training organisation, consider the following to help identify the service you require:
1. Does your organisation require an updated Statement of Attainment or a VOC?
2. Which version of the unit(s) do your employees currently hold?
Your staff should hold a High Risk Work Licence or Statement of Attainment (issued in Australia) confirming they have previously been found competent in the skill area.
If a unit has changed, is a “refresher course” required with the VOC to get the most up to date unit of competency?
3. What if your employee is not competent?
Part of the solution is assessment of any additional/gap training required before further assessment is conducted.
If your employee is not competent we will advise on ways to fill the gap.
