This program is designed for people who want to become instructors, not for people seeking a learner or provisional licence.
Requirements & Details:
- Participants must be a minimum of 18 years of age to sit the assessment, and be proficient in English
- Photo ID, and wear appropriate clothing and closed in shoes
- Participants will be required to undergo a Police History Check, Traffic History Check, and possibly a Medical Check if required. This is completed by Transport Main Roads (TMR) who may refuse to grant accreditation to a person who has been convicted of a criminal offence, or is currently charged with a criminal offence and the charge has not fully been disposed of.
- Participants must hold a current and unrestricted drivers license for a period of 1 year or more. Type 'O' only.
- Literacy and numeracy test will be required
- Self-paced theory training and assessment
- Face to face practical training and assessment
- Students have a maximum of 12 months to complete the program, as a guide most students complete the course within 2 months.

Outcome:
- After a successful competency assessment through all units of this course, you will receive a testamur TLI41225 Certificate IV in Motor Vehicle Driver Training (Car) and record of results issued by Queensland Transport and Logistics Training Pty Ltd (QTLT) NVR RTO 40931.
- You will also be required to apply to your State become an accredited driver trainer.

Is this course for learner drivers?
No. This course is not for learner drivers to get a car licence. It is for experienced drivers who want to become car driving instructors.
What qualification do I need to become a car driving instructor?
The current qualification pathway is TLI41225 Certificate IV in Motor Vehicle Driver Training — Specialisation Group A Cars.
Do I automatically become accredited after finishing the course?
No. After completing the course, you still need to apply to Transport and Main Roads Queensland for driver trainer accreditation.
What licence do I need?
You need a current open driver licence for the vehicle class you want to train in. For car driver training, this is generally Class C or CA. TMR also requires you to have held the relevant licence for at least 1 full year before applying.
Do I need a Blue Card?
If you provide driver training to children, TMR states that you must hold a Blue Card. Many car driving instructors work with learners under 18, so you should check this requirement before applying for accreditation.
How long does the course take?

Who issues the qualification?
The qualification outcome is issued by the RTO confirmed at enrolment. Brisbane Truck School works under a third-party arrangement with Queensland Transport and Logistics Training Pty Ltd — QTLT NVR RTO 40931.
Can I work for myself after becoming accredited?
Many driving instructors work as sole traders or operate their own driving schools. You will still need to meet TMR accreditation requirements, Blue Card obligations where applicable, vehicle requirements, insurance requirements and business compliance obligations.
What equipment does a driver trainer car need?
A driver trainer car must meet TMR requirements, including accessible training controls and appropriate mirrors for the instructor and learner.
